Thunderbird Setup

    Simple steps:

  • Get Thunderbird
  • Add new Profile
  • Fill in requested blanks
  • Download, Check and Send Email!>

If you don't have it get it Here It is free to download and free to use and is an excellent email client.

Thunderbird will prompt you to create a profile when you first open it. Those that already use it can just add a profile for this email.

New installs skip down to New installs

Add ProfileYou can run run the Profile Manager. To do that:

  • 1. Make sure Thunderbird is closed if it is open.
  • 2. Select Start > Run... from the Windows Start menu (use the search box on Vista).
  • 3. Enter " thunderbird.exe -ProfileManager " and press OK.

On Mac OS X, navigate to /Applications/Utilities, open the Terminal application
type /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -ProfileManager
and press Return.

New installs and those that ran the Profile Manager can now begin to establish a new profile.

You are now in the profile manager where you can add a profile. I typically add one named something that is easily associated with that email, like BoulangerBunch. Then it is easy to open for just that email.

Follow the steps to establish a new profile and enter the information in the boxes. You can use the walk through below but here is the information you will need when it asks for it:

   smtp server: mail.boulangerbunch.com port: 110
   pop server: mail.boulangerbunch.com port: 26
   username: your FULL email address
   password: you should know this

Walk through for newly installed Thunderbird:

Open Thunderbird, Enter the information needed. When it asks for your incoming email server (SMTP server), put in " mail.boulangerbunch.com " (without the quotes), when it asks for the outgoing mail server (POP server), put in " mail.boulangerbunch.com " (without the quotes). We use a different port than the standard port, so you must change that. Look for the port for the outgoing mail server, (were you put in the mail.boulangerbunch.com) the port showing will be 25, change it to 26. (The reason this port is used is that may ISPs (internet service providers) block the ability to sent email except through their servers)

Once you enter this information, Thunderbird will/can connect to your email, read, write, send and manage them.
